Default APR Chip question. I'll TRY to make this my last one.

Why purchase a spare ECU from APR at the full price of $650 if they offer the "Flipswitch Technology" for stock and chipped?

If I switch the chip to "stock" mode, will AUDI Service still be able to see the non-stock chip?

I am definitely purchasing my chip this week, but thought this would be good to know in case I want the extra EMCS options.

Default If they pull the box and open it

they will still know it is chipped.

FWIW a very close friend of mine does not have one, but should.

Default I had hear they were not actually allowed to open the box

unless of course they have good reason too. Not sure if this helps or not but wanted to share

Default There is at least one case of Audi sending the ECU back to Germany to be tested because they..

...suspected that the car had been chipped. The spare ECU is an insurance policy.

Default The flipswitch and security lockout are not intended to hide the fact...

that you have a chipped ecu. There are several data blocks that tell the technician if you are chipped or not.
A second ECU is the only way to hide it.. then I wonder what other computers on the car acutally log data????

Default but you can clear all of the fault codes using the emcs, so the audi techs...

realy can't tell unless they physically inspect the chip (a rare occurance -- but one with a non-zero chance of happening).

Default I have heard of a tech swapping ECU's to troubleshoot

if they dont know its chipped - they wont think you'll miss the original ECU...

Default ah, and you might even be talking about me

this was after the ECU went to Detroit first... or so said the service manager while my car was ever-so-slowly repaired

Yeah, and the ECU was stock.
