APR Stage III report on 2001.5 TTR (long)

I have been living vicariously through a coworker who has been having his 180 TTR modded in a serious way, including the APR stage III kit. We are in SoCal and he is having the work done in a local shop in Irvine.
Stage III:
Unfortunately, after installing the hardware, the shop realized that the software was not yet completed for the 2001.5 TT with variable valve timing. The car is currently running on a beta version of the software. However, the quality of the kit, the work, and even the feeling of the car with lower boost is great. APR is currently working on completing the software so that the kit will function at its full capactiy. The drivability with the beta program is similar to stock with more oomph in the upper RPMs, but more lag than before. All-in-all the beta seems like a good temporary fix.
Exhaust:
The shop doing the work had a custom exhaust fabricated for the car using a hard-to-come-by Borla XR-1 muffler and 3" mandrel-bent piping. The exhaust is 3" from the turbo all the way to the tip. The shop cut the 2.5" downsize on the end of the downpipe (or cat?) to allow for the full 3" exhaust. The car is a little loud, but it sounds so mean when the engine is revving hard. One of the employees feels that there is potential for "flames to shoot out of the exhaust on the 100 octane program once it is installed."
Suspension:
The shop installed modified Koni adjustables with Intrax lowering springs. The height is about 1 to 1.5 inches lower than stock and it looks killer. We took the car through some local twisties that I know well and the car handles so crisp compared to the stock setup on my 180 TTC. The ride is also very comfortable when crusing on the the freeway. This is definitely the setup that I'm going with.
That's all for now, but I'll provide a follow-up report when the Stage III software is complete for his car.
