"The top mechanism on the 180 FWD roadster is a simple manual mechanism... A power top is optional on this model and quite frankly unnecessary."<ul><li><a href="http://www.vwvortex.com/features/11_00/11_15/">Audi 180 TT Roadster</a></li></ul>

I wish our top was that easy. We would be driving it now instead of waiting again for another car.
It killed us to return the car. Very sad.
There was no way I could put the top up easily from in the car without using 2 hands. Very, very tight. It did work loose a little, but not a lot. Not even close enough to be 'easy'. Even outside the car, it was hard. Plus you have to get back IN to lock it down. Also noticed, if you were outside the car, there was a good chance that you could scratch the car with a button or zipper on your coat, pants, etc trying to reach it.
Not a hope of my wife raising or lowering it at all. she couldn't reach the handle from the driver's seat at all. Never mind raising it.
The only thing I can think of, is that the 225 manual top is mechanically different than the 180 top. The dealer said they were the same mechanicals, but was also amazed at how stiff our car's top was.
I can almost still smell the baseball interior...mmmm..

I would like to see one of these manual top TTR's and try to lower and raise it with 'TWO FINGERS' (as the salesman says).
It seems unreasonably hard to do IMO. I'm 6' tall and can reach it. I just have a heck of a time doing it. Certainly worth the extra $800 for the power feature.
