Default Audi DSG gearbox torque limits... Can modify to handle more torque!

I posted a while back after a conversation with AMD Technik when they told me they were developing a supercharger for the Audi 3.2 V6 engine. The supercharger however could not be fitted to cars with the DSG gearbox since it can only handle a maximum of 350Nm torque.

Well here is a quote from an article I found about the DSG gearbox.

"Jukel says the DSG box costs about the same to make as a normal torque converter automatic, and it's currently being built at the rate of 1 500 a day in VAG's own gearbox factory. It's particularly suited to cars for which you're looking for extra economy, such as a diesel, and in its current form it can take up to 350 Nm of torque - however, the current limits are based on the clutches, which can be suitably beefed up if required."

So it is the clutches in the gearbox that limit the transmission to 350Nm torque, not sure if anyone offers a clutch for the DSG that can handle more than this but will have a look.

Default Replacing the clutches would only require a simple rebuild>>

which can be accomplished with tools commonly found under the kitchen sink. ;-)

Just joking... interesting info.

Default

biggest problem with this is someone needs to manufacture the parts

Default 2 clutches are shoehorned one inside the other>>

so it isnt a case of simply replacing them with ones that can handle the extra torque...

At some point in the future im assuming Audi will probably release a car that produces more than 350Nm of torque and is available with the DSG gearbox. When they do it should be a simple job of just replacing the clutches.

Or maybe a DSG clutch with a higher torque limit will be released third party.

Default Software modifications would have to be made as well...

As I recall, the computer will limit engine output to save the transmission.

Default Very interesting info, thanks Robin!! BTW >>

I haven't heard back from HPA yet about the 400-HP kit for the DSG that HGP had advertised on their website. Steve (TTigg) had also mentioned that HPA was in the process of installing it for the firt time on a customer car so I'm surprised they haven't responded yet...

For those who missed it check out this thread from a few days ago.
