Audi TT differences over the years
Hey all-
I am looking to purchase a used Audi TT roadster. Can someone summarize (or point me to a summary) of the differences of the models over the last 6 years since inception in the US? I know that there are 2 main models, I believe, the 180hp and 225hp, the latter being quattro (which is what I want). But there was also initially a 5 speed, and then a 6 speed, and then DSG in 2006, I think.
Have there been other changes, such as refresh or added hp or something that I should be aware of?
Thanks!

In 2004
they added the 3.2 V6 with 250hp and the DSG transmission. If you're looking to modify the car though, the 225 would be your best choice. It is 6 speed manual, quattro, and of course can be highly modified. I think the general consensus is that the cars are little more reliable beginning around the '02/'03 years.... maybe '03.. check the archives on that one.
You can probably find subtle differences listed on http://autos.msn.com or http://www.edmunds.com. Like the grill was changed in '03. I think a black or dark gray baseball stitching was available at some point where initially it was just the red.

Re: Audi TT differences over the years
Ok, 2000 models were all 180FWD IIRC. All 180's are 5 spd. 2001 saw the intro of the 225, all of which are quattro 6 spd. I think 2001 also debuted the 180 quattro (5 spd). In 2004 (I think) the 3.2 with the Direct Shift Gearbox came out (also quattro).
People here will generally tell you to avoid the early years ('00 and '01). I have an '01, but have had ZERO issues (knocking on wood) other than a faulty temp sensor (7 dollar part), and a failed MAF (about 140 bucks). Hope this helps.

Here is the link to the model guide on this site>>>
breaks it out by year....I would get the most current model you can afford in order to keep some of the early model year bugs out of equation for your purchase....
Do your homework to, which includes;
- Carfax
- Maintenance history
- Invest in a technical review of the vehicle by a non-dealer professional that knows these cars. It will be worth the 200$ investment.
Do these three things...and IMO you will have a long and happy relationship with your TT...

https://www.audiworld.com/model/</a

take a look at item number 1 in the R&T summary....specifically "prophylactic measure..." Never heard that expression..EVAR!!! The fact that it is referenced with the Timing belt is classic!
That and number 6..."once replaced not likely to happen again...."
Buwahahahaa!!! ;-)
