Default Audi TT OEM Roof Rack!

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/90679/oem.jpg"></center><p>Well, after searching high and low, I finally snagged me a brand new set that had everything! Boy I tell you...it has been a long time coming people. But I lucked out BIG TIME if you consider one sold on eBay for $510.00 plus $35.00 for shipping!!! ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&amp;item=8007158715&amp;rd= 1&amp;sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&amp;rd=1 )

I don't know if anyone noticed but I found this thread a few pages back in the search function. I figured I send the nice fellow an email asking if he had found a happy home for it yet. Well to my surprise, he was about to put it up for (baby adoption) auction on eBay. Needless to say, he got paid a.s.a.p.!

He (Steve) stuck to his word despite finding the original receipt in the box. He let me have it for proof which showed that he paid $390.00 plus $20.00 for shipping back in the day. He sold it to me (it's a brand new set) for $400.00 which included shipping! I was just inspired that he kept his word, despite my offer to pay him $450.00. That's the kind of friend we all need to surround our selves with.

I also got a Thule Evolution 1600 with the limited Carbon Fiber "look". Thule had one left in their inventory (I tried chasing some down throughout the U S or A with scary shipping costs) and I got it with free shipping up to Alaska through Beaver Sports in Fairbanks! When that comes in, I'll post a few pics as well but don't laugh, L!<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/1320483.phtml">https://forums.audiworld.com/tt/msgs/1320483.phtml</a</li></ul>

All because of Steve. I hope he comes back into the TT family.

Default nice.

although hard to believe that you run those tires/wheels in the winter up there. are you in Fairbanks? how do you deal with the dreaded frozen tire 'flat spot' - not to mention TT-size road irregularities? you must have a heated garage. I haven't been up there since '92 or so, but the roads were brutal in the winter...

Default Good question...

Since I'm in the Coast Guard I relocate every 2 to 4 years depending on the unit I'm at. It's hard living out of a couple of suitcases until my house hold goods arrive to my next duty station. So my main reason for getting a roof rack is to pack up more things in a carrier that I will put on top of it. I also have a road bike so I have another use for it. My co-workers all call it a "goof rack" but it's not like I'll be sporting it around town, L!

Default That white stuff is left overs from the foam party the night before, ;-)

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/90679/roof.jpg"></center><p>But if you look closely (sorry I have no close up shots) the front rack has a "black strip" that runs length wise towards the bottom. Although both racks are aerodynamically shaped, this rubber strip almost shapes it like the wing of an airplane. So there really isn't any noticeable noise at highway speeds. Now if you have something up there, that's an entirely different subject.

Audi did such a good job at designing it (no surprise there) and Thule did a better job putting it together. I'm just dumb founded why they don't make it anymore or at least let Thule take care of the legal issues with broken hatch windows. The funny thing is, the instructions had a loose flyer with a drawing depicting the hatch opening which was hitting the tip of a ski. I guess a few TT owners sought legal action for their own miss judgments and now Audi doesn't make it any more.

Since Audi owns the design, Thule can't manufacture it anymore which totally blows! Thule makes a special rack for it but I have seen it in person and saw a fellow TT owner do a review on it here in Audiworld. But that "thing" isnt going to scratch my TT up, no way. You can get it in New Zealand for about +$800.00 USD, but don't ask me how...I wouldn't know where to begin.<ul><li><a href="http://www.audi.co.nz/accessories/accessory.asp?parent_category_id=155&amp;category_ id=775&amp;accessory_id=1722">http://www.audi.co.nz/accessories/accessory.asp?parent_category_id=155&amp;category_ id=775&amp;accessory_id=1722</a</li
