Default Audi and VW to be bought by BMW?!?

Say it ain't so! This from the latest Motor Trend:

"DaimlerChrysler is being directly challenged by rival BMW, which will soon own Rolls-Royce, and VW, which already owns Bentley."

I haven't heard anything about this until now. Anyone have any further details?

Doesn't sound good for Audi fans.

Relax! I think the proper reading of that sentence means that Daimler is being challenged by BMW, and by VW. Nothing to worry about. I wouldn't think BMW is in any position to buy VW anyway - the other way around would be more likely.

Default all of you need to lay off the coffe and read more car mags :)

BMW will own Rolls Royce in a few months after a short stint of VW owning THE NAME LICENSE and not the assets and VW ALREADY owns Bentley.

It's actually grammatically correct, if a bit hamhanded in clarity.

Default I can positively say that that is not true... this is why...

VW has special legal protection from the German goverment from takeover since they are the largest single employer in Germany. It would be nearly impossible for ANYONE to take them over. Forget the fact that VW is a bigger company. I forget all the details, but I read an article in the WSJ in HK last year.

Default More specifically I think it's Lower Saxony which is a German state that has all it's eggs in the

VW basket. Something like 40% of VW is owned by the state government of Lower Saxony.

Default Well the WSJ article said that there were specific German laws

which prevented the takeover of VW by basically anyone.
