I'm looking to upgrade the system in my car (Bose currently) and am looking for some recomendations as to what I should do. I have about $1400 to spend on equiptment total. I'm wanting to keep my stock HU, but replace the amp, door speakers, and add a sub in the trunk.

It was looking at doing new components in the doors, new coax in the back, and a 10" sub in the trunk. Most of my problem is lack of space. I'd love to stick with just one amp, but I'm not sure which one to get to drive enough power where I need it in the car. I had close to an all-Alpine system in my old GTI. I love the sound of the speakers and the performance of the amps. I had used SPR-176a (component) SPR-174a (Coax), an MRD-M500 (500w to a JL Audio 10w6v2), and a MRV-F540 to power the speakers in the cabin. I'm looking at the same setup now, but that would just eat all of my trunk space away (I'd like to keep the spare tire).

So, any ideas or recomendations on equiptment alternatives? I'm looking for quality product, and not something that's totally going to break the bank. Any ideas on any kind of custom sub enclosures would be great as well.

I did this...

Speakers:
Front - Focal 6" with Tweeter Separates
Rear - 6.5" Nakamichi Coaxial w/swivel Tweeters
Subs - Two (2) Eclipse 8"
Amplification: Zapco 360 - 4 channel

The Zapco Amp is one of the most space efficient Hi--quality amps out there and it fits perfectly in a upright position behind the rear rt side panel (behind the Safety Kit).

Oh, I've been using John's site BIG TIME. That's been a huge resource for me.

My question is more on the equiptment side, and I'm not familar with much of what John is using.

For those of you who have done audio installs, did you just give up most of the trunk for a box and amp(s)?
