Just as I expected, I went to the dealer to pick up some Aviator Gray touch-up paint (tiny scratch on side view mirror) and it does not match my car. In fact, it matches the paint sample in the brochure and on the web perfectly, but not the "real" Aviator Gray.
In fact, has anyone noticed that the Aviator Grey
is not the same color as in all the Audi literature? If you disagree, check out www.audiusa.com, then check out www.tirerack.com and try some wheels on an AG TT, and check a color selection brochure (if you have one). Then check my TT on my web page (listed below) or any other AG TT and you will see that the real AG is much bluer than in all the literature.
So how do I get the real paint? Anybody have this problem? I've tried painting the paint on some paper and letting it dry and it still doesn't match.
Aviator Gray 2000 180TTQC

Hmm we have observed the samething, it is interesting to see how "Z" brings out the new more blue specturm of the AG. We now have 4 layers of Z2 an about 5 "Gloss Enhancer" layers. I'll check with our Pantone tool tomorrow to see where about the color code fits. It is definietly not over on the grey side it is sort of leaning over to the blue.
Tomorrow is "Saturday mornin' rituale"
-hand wash + drying 45min
-Z2 application 12 min (+60min drying time)
-Z2 wipe off - 20 min
-"Gloss Enhancer" 20 min
asTTi

but this was something I noticed when I first got the car. The pics on my web page where also taken two weeks after I got the car (notice the snow) and before I discovered Zaino.
My car does appear lighter now than in those early pictures, but its hard to tell how much since they were taken when it was overcast.
The major difference is that the touch-up paint seems to have no "blue" component in it at all, while there definitely is some blue in the car paint.
Aviator Gray 2000 180TTQC

in front of the spare tire in the spare tire well?
The sticker is also in your owner's manual that has the color codes for your car.
I hope it's not possible you got a Nimbus Gray and due to the scarcity didn't realize it until now!

gio, did they give you the paint or did they make you pay for it? Had to pay $8.61 for mine.

...because there is no absolute method to accurately reproduce color in any media. But I suspect that it might have faded a bit... either via sun and/or overall weathering.
Hey, have you tried it in a obviously well hidden spot on the car? Like under the hood, or better yet, inside the car under some carpeting where it has been well protected from all elements? Then you probably could confirm for sure whether or not it's a no match.
