Default Bad car week (now possible turbo issue)...>>>

First the bent control arm issue and now this morning I started smelling coolant. At work checked under the car, dripping coolant. Drove home (only 10 miles, plenty of coolant left).

At home, I climbed under the car again and noticed coolant leaking from pretty much where the turbo is sitting.

My initial guess is:

1. Some seals worn (didn't see the obvious hose problem)
2. Turbo charger problem.

I'll take the car to Carlsen Audi next week to see what they think. I'm just curious, *if* it is the turbo charger. I know that my car (2000
TTQC) has a regular K03, I wonder if anyone knows if it's possible to put a K03 Sport on (just in case I need to have it replaced) and if so, where is a good place to get (a new) one ?

Default Have you seen the new 'Super K04'?

Neuspeed carries it, but if your replacing the K03, get at least a K04. Stay away from the K03's if you have the choice

A full 240bhp K04 kit is 1500.00<ul><li><a href="http://www.greedspeed.com/products/prod_details.aspx?prod_id=1195&amp;app=4&amp;app_d esc=2000-2004%20Audi%20TT%20FWD%201.8t%20180HP&amp;cat=11"> http://www.greedspeed.com/products/prod_details.aspx?prod_id=1195&amp;app=4&amp;app_d esc=

I tought a K03 and K03Sport are interchangeble..

Default It is, but then so is a K04 :)

If you're in Cali, all the better. We have all the tuner shops really close and shipping is next day.

Default Exterior physical dimensions of the two K03 types are slightly different-->

That's why the turbo inlet pipe upgrade (Ex: Neuspeed or ABD) must be specific for the one you have. The K03spt has slightly smaller inlet size. The K04 is identcial externally to non-spt K03 so it uses same inlet pipe and downpipe. I'm not sure if the bolt pattern for dp is identical for K03 spt and non-spt, but pretty sure that is same.
I replaced the non-spt K03 on my '01 Jetta AWD with a K04 "kit" of diff brand parts before such became available through couple places like AWE and Neuspeed. But you'll need different software to drive the K04. I drove my car with UPsolute's K03 file after the K04 install...you'll get overboost codes real quick if you punch it. Upsolute wrote new code for me cheap, but it wasn't as strong/consistent as GIAC's. Car still hauled butt over non-spt K03.
One word, don't buy a used K04!!! And don't push the daylights out of it constantly either. The K04 will not give you strong above 5500rpm pull like the model on the 225's. The former will give you exc't torque down low, just a bit above K03's 1900rpm, but is great in mid-range to 5500.
I believe you'll get similar results on the 180TT, but do some checkin' to be sure.
NOTE: If you have the $$ available, skip the KKK's and go right to APR Stg 3. It'll more than double the cost, but double the pleasure. Don't forget to add an FMIC and DP.

Default There are no soft seals to wear out. The coolant lines have banjo fittings and use...

crush washers. Most likely one of the screws holding the banjo fittings onto to the turbo housing is slightly loose due to thermal cycling over the years so it lets coolant out under pressure. It probably just needs re-torquing. If you wait to long you might to change a few more things.

Default You are right, however, I found out it was one of the heater core hoses (1J0 121 156AN) that..

had a bite missing out of it.. It must have hit something extremely hot (which is easy in that area ;-)
