Bailey DV - Piston showing signs of heat damage and less spring resistance

I have had the Bailey DV installed for several months now and approximately 3000 miles. I have operated it in the "reversed orientation" for approximately 1500 miles after MichealTT's posts.
Just this week I changed out my aftermarket parts in preparation for my 5K service and to troubleshoot a check engine warning indicator related to secondary air injection system (see previous posts).
Upon close inspection of my Bailey DV I realized that the piston material is showing signs of heat damage and the spring tension is noticeably less - I can now easily depress the piston with my finger (couldn't do this when it was new).
As a side note I have driven my car under "extreme" conditions by attending a track event recently with the Bailey DV installed which may have led to its early demise...however I am exteremely interested if anyone else has experienced any similar problem????
I did just order a Forge DV as if this is going to be "consumable" part then at least I can change the inards of the Forge....

when I tried out the Forge) and have AutoXed with it (no track event though) and have seen nothing like what you are showing. I am quite sure AWE would change out and in particular would want to examine.

Yes, bubled and somewhat melted - I tried to capture the detail with the picture. The spring tension is noticeably weaker also.
I suspect this may have been the cause of my check engine indicator but I won't know for sure until the temparature drops. It has not re-occured with my stock "E" DV.
I would gladly send it back to AWE for them to examine but I will not be installing another. Hopefully I will have better luck with the Forge DV if it will last longer than a few months and 1 track event ;-).
Could this be a negative long term effect of reversing the valve since our group was probably the first to try it that way????

I have between 3 and 5,000 miles on my Bailey. I have one QCUSA Drivers School on it as well as 4 auto-x events.
I will pull it out today and have another look at it and let you know what I find.

And I personally am VERY weary about installing them inversed. I don't see any point to it. And it may cause premature wear.
If the valve is burnt, it could be due to a leak caused by not installing them as recommended. If the valve is bad, replace it ASAP.

I can blow through the vacuum fitting on the Bailey with no resistance.
What kind of mechanism is inside the Bailey to actuate the piston? Looks like this is why the piston melted - since it wasn't opening properly???
Definitely want to get this thing to AWE! Hope no one else has this happen!
