Default BAMM install w/ BMC CDA

First Here's a picture of my BMC CDA before. Notice how the MAF slides into a hole on the side of the BMC CDA. The MAF's first inch is slightly smaller in diameter and alows the MAF to slide 1" into the Box. This cannot be done with the BAMM because the outside diameter of the BAMM is smaller than the OEM MAF.

Here's a picture of the OEM MAF. You can see how the first inch is slightly smaller.

Here are the parts that I ordered to install the BAMM to my setup.

3" angle ring (from www.mcmaster.com page 547 item 176K81)

2" long 3"diameter silicon hose from hose techniques

2 clamps from hosetechniqes.com made for 3" silicon hose

3 #10 by 1/2" self tapping screws and washers from home depot

and GE Bath and kitchen silicone

I put a bead of silicone around the hole in the BMC CDA; placed the angle ring on it; drilled three holes and screwed er down (note: take the CDA apart to do this so nothing gets into the filter or Box). Then I put a small bead of silicone sealant around the ring and slid the 2" silicone hose over it. Placed 30lbs weight on it overnight to set. Here she is:

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/63690/bammtop.jpg">

Now as far as the BAMM itself: Since the outside diameter was smaller the my OEM MAF, I got out my Micrometer. Modshack didn't directly quote me that the BAMM had 11% greater area than the OEM but I did see it posted, so lets see.

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/63690/maff70mm.jpg">

OEM inside diameter: = 70MM
BAMM Inside diameter: 74MM

area of circle: pi r sqrd (wow! I can't believe I remember that)

area OEM = 3846.5 sq mm
area BAMM = 4298.66 mm
hence BAMM has 11.76% greater area.

Observations after driving 2 days: The larger MAF holder and 4bar FPR makes the car ROAR. I'm not kidding, usually I can't tell if there is a difference with a mod (except the chip), but at 3K the acceleration is extremely noticable up to 6k where I shift.

The only problem I had with the install was that I stripped one of the thumb screws on the BAMM. My fault the sensor didn't seat completely so twisted till one stripped. So I replaced the thumb screws with 5mm by 30mm allen head screws fro m home depot.

Also the 3 bar fpr was a bugger to get out, so I wrapped a cloth around it and used my 12' channel lock pliers and pulled while wriggling. The 4 bar wouldn't seat, after insight from this forumn and MODSHACK, I pressed it in.

All in ALL, it was my first purchase from the MODSHACK. Any questions I had were attended to in a very short period of time. Great customer service. For the time he spent fabricating the carbon fiber covered SS piece and the testing he did for all of us the reap the benefits, it is a bargain!

Default Bill....Nice job......>

On the BMC adaptation. I have another (JazziTT) who has a BMC flanged TTDA wanting to do the same...Great work! Glad you like the results. It does make a serious difference!!

MAF holders sold out til the next batch comes in in a few weeks...Tubes are being prepped as we speak though!!

Thanks,

Steve

Default Hmmmm....I thought using it as a gasket wouldn't be a problem >>

but the article does say "The normal aging process will eventually cause the oxygen sensor to fail. However, the sensor may also fail prematurely if it becomes contaminated with lead from leaded gasoline, phosphorus from excessive oil consumption or silicone from internal coolant leaks or using silicone sprays or gasket sealers on the engine."

I know that the heat exposure of a silicone sealant on an engine is much higher than on the air intake, but to be on the safe side I should remove the silicone gasket and replace it with a normal cardboard type gasket from an auto parts store. Thanks

Default As a gasket I don't think you'll have a problem...>>

I wouldn't expect any "silicone" to get ingested. O2's are only $22 anyway!

Default I like the alternate dirty sock with yellow tie-wrap. nice touch.

Both carbon pieces look like a direct match. Excellent write up for those that use a BMC intake. Great job.

Default so you have the 4bar revo program?

if so, what do you have for a downpipe? if not, how are you utilizing the 4bar fpr?
