You can dip the bulbs in glass paint. Much easier.
I got some glass paint from a local hoby store for about $3. Dip the bulbs and let them dry. Takes about 10 miutes and seems better than trying to stick other stuff in there. I made the turn signal bulbs amber but left the others clear btw.

You could do two things...
1. just dip the existing bulbs in an orange glass paint and let them dry, do about 3 or 4 coats. They will blink orange.
2. attach the existing amber lens behind the new clear lens and it will also blink orange.
