Default seriously... I learned by following online tutorials.

go to google and do a search on "photoshop tutorial" or "photoshop tips and tricks". Find an effect you like and just follow the instructions. Half the time you have no idea what you're doing but every once in a while it clicks and you understand what's going on. And it's more fun than actually learning the tools one by one. You may have to start with <a href="http://graphicssoft.about.com/library/course/bllps5out.htm">this overview</a> but once you have the basics down, it's just tutorials, tutorials and more tutorials
