Default Bigger FUBA on the TT?? (more...)

Hey, I have two VW Corrado's right now, and I am anxiously awaiting my upgrade into the Audi Sport Coupe family, (its gonna be a while) but I noticed that while my Corrado's have a FUBA antenna that is about 14" long, the TT has an antenna that is about 4" long. I love the look of the Corrado's antenna and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a possible mod to do to the car..

Default Antennas on the Corrado and the TT serve different functions...

The Corrado has the FUBA, as you say. That's its radio antenna. The radio on the TT gets its signal from the rear window glass, and the 'lil sprout is the cell phone antenna (and a %*@& analog one at that!).

Soooooo, its probably possible to replace the 'lil sprout with a FUBA. You might even get better reception on the cell phone, but its not going to do anything to your stereo reception.

Default The 'lil sprout is a cell phone antenna?

Why are there extraneous parts on my TT? I don't have the phone option, and don't want it. I just assumed it was for the radio.

Default As far as I know it is...

...and I sorta agree that its extraneous. You could unscrew it, but the socket might corrode.

Default Here is the poop on the roof antenae . . . and radio antenae

The roof mounted antenae is the Analog Cell Antenae. Audi of Germany got it in their heads before the US production run of cars to install cell phones in ALL TT's headed to the US because they said ALL americans have a cell phone and will want one in their TT's.

This is all well and good, until AoA found out that they were installing . . .German ANALOG cell phones! They would NOT have even worked in the US. The Germans made a HUGE screw up. At this point Audi of Germany said all of the TT's headed to the North America will be pre-wired for the Cell phone and they will have a US spec phone fabricated. AoA convinced Germany to make the phone an OPTION . . .thank goodness!

Now for the Radio antenae. If you look at the rear window defroster very closely you will notice that the top 3 lines are NOT connected to the rest of the defroster. This is because that is the Radio Antenae!

All Audi's have the radio antenae installed like this, except for the TTR, which has the antenae mounted on the drivers rear quarter panel. This was done because I guess they couldn'y get good enough reception when the roof was folded down. The Cell phone option would share this same antenae if it were installed in the Roadster.

I hope this clears things up antenae-wise.
