Default The BIRA A4 bracket FITon my TT! Porsche Boxster 4 piston calipers w/bracket and stock rotor(more)

At Rik's yesterday I had a friend who lives right down the road stop by. His name is Grey Amy. He is the technical contact for www.bira.org, which stands for Braking Improvement Research Association. He co-developed a "System 1" and "System 2" Porsche big brake conversion for the Audi S4, S6, A4, A6, 5000, 200, 100, and VW Passat. The most recent addition to this list the Audi TT(System 1)! With a little help from me(the use of my car), my friend Jeff's A4 BIRA lightweight aluminum brackets($250), and a Porsche Boxster monoblock 4 piston caliper that Greg brought with him, we test fit the caliper, and from the pictures above you can see, System 1 WORKED!(Now just to paint the calipers RED!)

Now that I've got you drooling(ExTTreme?) you want to know how you can setup a TT to out-brake a Boxster:

$20 one time application fee to BIRA
$250 for the BIRA Aluminum brackets
~$215 per caliper(2 needed)(you have to order them yourself) and
$100-$150 for High quality monoblock brake pads
~$150 per rotor(2 needed) for a new Audi TT rotor from dealer or aftermarket.(Slotted if you want)
$125 stainless steel brake lines(neuspeed or APR)
$11 per liter ATE Super Blue(or similar fluid)
Special "nipple" to fit the stainless/teflon brake line to the Porsche caliper.($?)
There are also a few Audi and Porsche bolts that you need to buy from the dealer, ranging from $1-$5 per bolt.

Total cost for system 1 is around $1200. I'm guessing at some of the pricing, and it will vary depending on where you source it from. System 2 would require a S4 rotor mated it with a Boxster-S caliper, but the S4 rotor has a different bolt pattern and different offset. For now it is NOT cost effective to do this.

You should be able to find any additional info on system 1 at BIRA's website, or by emailing Greg Amy. I will post actual pricing etc. when I get my setup.

Note: It is undetermined if this system will clear the stock TT 16" rim. This is important for those of you running 16" snow tires. There is a list of approved 16" and 17" rims on the website. The stock 17" 6 spoke rim will be added to this, the stock 16" and the 5 spoke 17" are an unknown at this time.(I would assume the 5-spoke 17" works)

I can't comment on performance yet, as I have a long way to go ordering and installing all of this. I am hoping to have the extra funds to get this completed before my trip to Watkins Glen and Summit Point this summer. More info when I have it! Feel free to email me any questions.
-Jenner
