Default I check mine every week .. .

I auto-x the car or have it on the track every weekend!

Constantly adjusting the tire pressures.

Default I felt the steering pull to the left and I was...

slowing down when the tire blew off.

Default What brand/model of tires?

And did you get a new set of rims with them? Did you consider getting all-seasons instead?

Thanks,

Default Nope, wanted set of tires just for winter. Bought the Borbet "C"

wheels with Pirelli 210 Winter Asymettricos. Went down to a 16" wheel for winter. Smaller is supposedly better in winter, but I'm sure sticking with a 17" with snow tires would work just as well.

Default The man said blow-out & lost control. Even a moron would know a

tire was flat @ 70mph. It's the speed FOLLOWING the blow-out that most likely destroyed the tire.

It happens to truckers most often because they have 18 wheels and cannot feel the single tire going flat or failing. Its why they carry a pipe to rap on the tires to see if one is going down. Add the load weight and you have very different circumstances leading up to tire failure.

Default Bogey, not true!

If you are travelling on a straight relatively smooth road, you might not know a low profile tire is flat, or just going down slowly.

Has it ever happened to you?

Default Modern tires will hold together @ street speeds with a 1/3 drop in air pressure b/4 heat ...

with destroy them. @ a 5 lb drop I'm questioning, @ a 10 lb loss the steering is pulling hard and I know I'm in trouble.

Loss of control is a strong indicator that loss of air pressure was sudden (blowout). Punctures will generally lower rim to roadway in a more even manner retaining some measure of stability even though tire can/will come apart from the stress.

Tire failure @ racetrack is a different matter but that's also a different subject.

Default I do not think that the tire...

were significantly under inflated because I looked at them the day before when I was getting gas. Also since it was my front left wheel I always get a good look at it while walking to and getting in my car.

My commute is very easy. 20 miles on highways to a large company lot. At my apartment I have an assigned space with no curbs or debris in site. (no curbs in sight) The right two wheels were perfect.

There was no damage to the treads and I would fathom a guess that I would have noticed if something that would puncture my sidewall. The writing on the front side wall are slightly "rubbed" off.

About the tire heat, the tire blew out and was 20 yards down the road. In fact, it was a sureal site watching my tire roll down the shoulder as I was slowing my car down. It was 5 minutes after the incident before I went to pick up the tire.

I did feel the front end "shimmy" a little and go flat but as I took my foot off the gas when the tire blew out. It happened all in less than 5 seconds I would guess.

Actually, did not turn on the music that day because I forgot to bring the CD cassette down from my apartment.

I am just a little concerned and dissapointed with AoA and Bridgestone. I am especially unhappy with AoA because our family has a long history of purchase. (2 A4s,1 S4('95),my TT, A8('96)...
