Bluetooth phone integration/Audi integrated microphone...

So after a bunch of searching, it seems the integrated microphone isn't very good and it is near impossible to wire it to be used with another device (such as a car computer). Correct me if I'm wrong here...
For my car computer install, I'm integrating my phone via Bluetooth through the computer. The computer's audio is going through the CD changer Line-In - no issues with getting sound out of the phone. My question is I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it in.
Since I'm assuming I can't use the already built in microphone, is there room to mount a microphone of my own behind the instrument cluster "vent"? I've never had the instrument cluster out and would appreciate if anyone can recall how much room is behind there before I pull it out and try mounting a mic behind it.
Thanks!

this is the best image I have left, but that area, top of the cluster did house the OEM mike.
You can mount one in there easily.

there are a number of posts regarding removing the cluster, and also, when you have it removed, you can see how it separates easily.
There are 5-6 torx screws, and some tabs to separate
It's pretty easy, just be careful.
