Default Boost Leak Help Needed

In the above picture, the middle hose, above the Samco but below the top rubber hose. It's on the passenger side of the engine. There is a rubber hose that is connected to that metal 90 that appears to go into the intake manifold. I am getting a lot of air blowing out of there using a pressure tester. I have the oil cap off and the bottom PCV hose pinched off.

There shouldn't usually be a leak there should there be? What type of connector is that? Doesn't seem to be the hose, seems to be the 90 into the intake itself leaking but it's getting dark.

Any thoughts?

Bigger Picture

Default Yup....seen that one before..>>>

(I think JulieM was the first with the problem. Rob (Ebb in memorium) had that failure too) I think they re-designed that hose, and some have come up with other alternatives. I have a piece of koolmat over mine to keep the heat off....

Default I think that's the juliem leak.

IIRC she was one of the first to experience it. It's a horribly overcomplicated set of hoses that has been prone to cracks. The OEM replacement part is probably pretty expensive.

MarTT replaced that complex piece with a length of heater hose. Not sure if he has a pic.

Default And I remember how hard that one has been to track down in the past

seriously, the leak tester is an incredibly valuable tool for these cars.

Default Thanks guys, if anyone finds any pics of the homemade replacement I'd appreciate it.

Doesn't look liks a lot of fun to replace but I'll have to take a look in the daylight.

And thanks again Steve, took longer for my Air Compressor to build up air then it did to find the leak.

Default Here is MarTT's broken hose. Only two of the three legs are actually

connected to anything. All you need is a piece of heater hose of the right ID, about 10" long. Take the 3-way fitting off, and connect the two connections with the heater hose. Check the link for MarTT's pics (I can't link directly).

http://public.fotki.com/martt/audi_tt/mods/evoshield/gasket_052.html</a

Default Mike explained it - 12" of heater hose . . .

and it works great. The contraption that makes up the stock piece is overkill and bad design.
