Default Boost Machine

After having read and semi-digested all the previous posts concerning the ecs n75 valve, is there a concensus as to the safety of this mod or has anyone done the "mod shack" version and if so which one should a "weekend modder" try ?? I am running an APR 93 chip, forge dvr, Samco intake and BMC cda. TIA

Default I may be predjudiced...>>>

But I find the ability to control boost and, particularly spiking, is safer. Set to a conservative boost level ie 20-22 PSI, with no spikes to 25+ like a Race N75 is way easier on your driveline than uncontrolled Torque application. More predictable from a driveability standpoint too. There is an article on this on Autospeed this month showing some pretty mangled driveline parts from Evo's and WRX's when dialed up without spike control. The car is smoother and more consistant. Remember, the stock N75 stays in-line, so boost tapering is still in place.
DON'T do this without a boost gauge to dial things in. A few people have done this mod and like it a lot...

Default The Dawes was unusable on my car....>>>

The simple regulator install with one valve plumbed between the N75 is a good way to go. Source the better Metalworks valve from version 2 though. Since our turbo's are small, you really don't need the second valve (relief valve) to deal with the onset and boost creep issue...
One valve and a couple of hose barbs will set you back less than $25

Default The regulator essentially...>>>

Becomes a variable N75. You will have more control and a broader range of tunability if you use a stock N75. I've tried both and the stock works better. The only difference between a stock and a race N75 is the orfice size that boost bleeds through to control the wastegate. With the race, less boost is let through as the solenoid operates, so less pressure is available to open the Gate. This pic will give you a good visual on how it all works together: The "Boost machine" plumbs between the compressor outlet line and the lower N75 nipple...
