Default Boost Questions

Hey guys wondered if you could give me some feedback on my boost questions. I finally installed a boost gauge & have been taking readings between the vacuum and the boost during driving.

Idle sits around 17hg with off gas hitting 20hg. On the boost side it never sees any positive boost in 1st, but 2nd creeps up around 5psi & then each gear onward stays positive. I hit max of 21psi with a full roll on but it doesnt stay steady, it starts dropping back to somewhere around 17psi. Is this normal? It seems like the boost swings around quite a bit, and doesnt like to stay steady much. Is there a way to keep it more consistant? It seems up top in the rpm it pulls hard, but feels like its dropping off a bit, shown by the drop in boost from 21 psi down to 17psi.

About the car, its a 2000 quattro with a Forge FMIC, Dhalback intake manifold, neuspeed intake/chip/catback exhuast/pulleys & I am not sure what else. I cant tell onthe the turbo, but i would assume its not a k03 since its making so much boost. I did pick this up used from a local dealer...

Thanks & sorry for the length!

Default Here's what VandyS4 says... sorry in advance ;-)

BOOST GAUGE: "A mechanical device born in the deepest levels of Hell and is powered by the misery of its owner. Installing a Boost Gauge will help keep you aware of possible boost leaks. However, because this car is so prone to catastrophic boost leaks, the gauge only serves to reduce your life to nothing more than a series of paralyzing anxiety attacks."

Default A 21 PSI spike dropping to 17 sounds like a Garret X-chip to me.

It could also be Revo, though.

Anyway, definitely aftermarket software.

Sounds reasonably normal, but I would expect you to see a little more boost than you're reporting in the lower gears.

Default your neuspeed chip is also a bit on the low side power wise regardless of what is said

neuspeed is a bit conservative with their tuning IIRC from my old A4 chip

Default Sounds pretty normal...>

The N75 and programming is responsible for boost taper. Not many using the NS chip here though...

Sorry I forgot, it has a Forge DV as well. That brings up another question, when shifting or letting off on the accelerator during hard pulls, it sounds like a blowoff valve. I thought the DV was suppose to be more quiet?

Does the boost machine hold boost more consistant?

Yeah thats what I heard....I was thinking of going with the dahlback chip....among some other dahlback stuff. I am putting on some Dahlback KW coilovers this weekend & really like their stuff.

Default which Forge DV? I find my 007P to bleed more boost off quicker over my

defunct Forge DV-R..... just piston vs diamphragm DVs.
