Default Brake Rotors: How do the stock front rotors differ from the rear ones?

I think they are different in size, but what else?
Are the calipers different as well?

I'm thinking about replacing the front rotors with the zimmerman cross drilled rotors. Can I then replace the rear rotors with the ones from the front?

Default The rear caliper carrier will not be able to accomodate the front rotor.

You should just get Zimmerman's for all four corners.

What are you going to do for a parking brake?

Default The differences . . .

I am talking 225 here:

Front is 12.3" vented rotor the rear is 10.1" vneted rotor. The thickness is slightly thicker in the front, don't have the exact numbers in front of me.

The calipers are larger in the front because the TT like most Fwd cars performs almost 80% of its braking with the front axle.

The front calipers are at the leading edge of the rotor and the rear calipers are at the trailing edge of the rotors.

The rear calipers have an integrated parking brake built into them.

If you were to move the front rotors to the rear then you would need to modify quite a few items.

One of the problems would be getting new brackets fabricated to allow you to move the rear calipers approximately 1" more towards the rear of the car to allow for the larger diameter rotor. You would also need longer brake lines and alos possibly a new parking brake cable. I don't know if the parking brake cable would have enough slack to stretch that extra 1".

One thing you also have to look at is whether or not the front rotor hub can actually fit onto the rear rotor hub. I tried this on Mike's car just out of curiosity and it didn't mate up at all. He has a 225TTR.

One last thing to look at is whether or not the caliper itself can fit over the thicker rotor with brake pads in place if you kept the rear calipers back there. I don't think they would work, but I never checked that.

Hope some of that helps
