Default Burning Oil

Is it possible to burn a quart of oil for every 1000 miles. It has been about 4000 miles since my last service, somehow, the "Low Oil Pressure" light indicator came up, then I checked and found almost no oil left in my engine. Technically, your engine should not burn oil especially the new cars. I called the audi dealer and customer service, and they all say it possible. I don't believe that. May be it's possible but shouldn't happen to the new car. Any ideas?

Default Like my service advisor said "the 225 has a tendency to eat oil" during its break-in.

I don't know whether you have a 180 or 225...but from everything I've read and been told it is entirely possible that your car is burning oil.

That doesn't mean, however, that you have to just sit back and accept excessive oil use.

Default I have this problem too...

I had to add 2.5 quarts about 2500 miles before my 40k service (and i had the oil done at about 34k)...they then topped it off at 40k (i don't know how much they added). Less than 1000 miles later, my oil light came on while going around a corner...i happened to be right by an audi dealer, so i pulled in. They added 2.5 quarts (!!!) and said to come back in 1000 miles so they could check it out "officially"

i'm very worried. the car is running poorly and seems to be constantly out of tune.

someone else on here had that problem (search the posts for "oil consumption" and you'll find it) and ended up getting a new engine. he said that more than 1 quart per 1000 miles is a problem, according to AoA.

i think this oil burning issue may be a bigger and wider spread problem that Audi knows and, as i get near the end of my warranty, i'm definitely going to push for a complete fix, even if this means a new engine or a lemon-law claim.

Default 2001 Corvette Z06 burns 1 quart every 800 miles, a friend...

of mine has one(385 hp version) and when they were released they came with rings in the cylinders that were too small(they fixed this problem with the 405 hp version) thus causing major oil consumption. Chevrolets fix basically involves tearing down the engine and replacing the rings. My friend decided against this due to the fact that he did not trust the guys at chevy to put it back together correctly and just lives with the fact that he must add oil every other time he gets gas.

He also asked why they waited a year to release the 405hp version, thus making his less valuable after only 1 year of ownership and they said that the engine was not ready before. I guess we now know why.....

Default Every 2500 miles I get the light as well

I have the same issue, ever 2500 miles or so I get the low oil light and have to put more oil in. I have asked audi about it and my service people are giving me the same line. That it is within audi spec.

Default All you guys with problems-

be persistent! I would ask to have "Official Oil Consumption Tests" performed.

When I started complaining about my problems (nearly a year ago) I was told then, "the 225's have shown no problems with oil consumption" - so my car didn't have a problem. Now, at least they're admitting that the problem occurs.

My symptoms were the same as everyone elses here and finally, because of my persistence, I'm getting a new motor. We'll see if it's me or the motor after a few thousand miles.

When you can prove 1 qt per 1K miles, Audi will begin address the problem.

Good luck, everyone.

Default Yeah everyone who bought the first year got screwed, but ALL LS1/6 350's burn a lot of oil due to

the high compression. Most dealers call it "normal"
