so once again its not really a 1.8t transverse (jetta,TT,beetle) problem since these 1.8t's have more oil.... if you maintain you car you should be fine...

eddie you can copy and paste info all you want but it doesnt make you right.

Ha calling me a troll. Always a last resort for people who can't explain why things happen. Your rated next to the guy that has to run off and slash his wrists because of poor grammar. Then needs to use grammar bashing to try to discredit someone. Break.com has a good video of forum flow.

Give it a break. The 1.8T with the sludge problem was in the Passat and the the A4. They both have a smaller oil pan that that found in the TT. The recommended fix was to use a larger oil filter which upped the capacity of the system. I've had the valve cover off my TT at 85K and it is totally clean. But like you I do run Synthetic. I also take the additional step of sending the sample in for analysis everytime I do change the oil.

Default I have a 2000 FWD does yours have the recall or no??

If you do not have the recall done you are going to have the much better control arms and no spoiler. I have had no problem with sludge or my crankcase ventilation. Make sure you do a carfax and get a full history of all the service done. I had a bad problem with a first gear grind but some Amsoil Severe Gear oil solved that problem easily. I love my car and wouldnt trade it for anything. Good luck on yours.

I will admit I don't agree with Eddierocks, he seems immature at times, but I do agree that our cars have sludge problems. My last TT had major sludge problems bad enough to constitute a brand new head at 60k courtesy of Audi, and my current has less noticeable problems, but they are existent. I used to service my cars at Champion Motorsport and they admitted that it was a "common" problem in at least the 225 TT motor with sludge buildup. It has a lot to do with the PCV valve, blowby and hotter climates, and do not ask me why, I am repeating what I was told.

Anywho... hard to tell without at least getting a good look in the head.
