Buying a used TT Coupe FWD from 1999, what are the things I should check before buying?
Lost my job about a week ago, so I had to turn in my TT. As it is unlikely I will be able to find another job with a TT as company car, I will have to buy one myself (for the wife ;-). Don't have the money for a new one, but I have seen a nice black TT Coupe FWD (180hp) from 1999. It has the security modifications (rear wing/ESP) and only about 35.000 km (21.875 miles) on the clock. The asking price is 18.500 euro ($ 17.200), new this model costs about 32.120 euro ($ 29.700) over here. I think it's a good price...
So what are the things I should check before buying this car? I would appreciate to hear from anyone who was experience at buying a used TT. Thanks in advance.

most important thing with that car is the tranny.
Drive it and shift both slow and fast from 1-2 and 2-3. If it grinds even once don't buy the car. It will feel as though you missed the shift, it is not your fault, but the tranny itself. Bad syncros.
Check the maintenance records and make sure everything has been done. Generally just oil changes and filter changes, not too much to do with a Fwd at 21,000 miles.
Sounds like a good deal to me.

Upper strut mounts and front motor mounts...have em checked...lock/light bug.
Our early build 1/99 has been a good performer with relatively few problems.
Do you know the Vin/serial #?

My best advice is to check the thing out from bumper to bumper.
Leave no stone unturned. I recently purchased a used 2000 180 quattro. It seems to be in pretty good shape, but I'm grateful that my husband was with me to help check it out. I wouldn't have thought to check to see if the jack in the truck was broken (it was). It is Audi Assured, and supposedly they check over every inch, but that's doubtful. The tires on it were almost bald. Luckily my husband still had his wheels from his roadster. We got the car home and the CD Changer isn't working (petty, yes, but it may not be covered by warranty). I would definitely check out the brakes and tires. Those could prove to be quite expensive. Also, make sure the clutch feels "right." My husband said mine was a little "spongy" and the mechanic had a look at it. An expensive repair that's not covered by the Audi Assured warranty.
