Default A/C is making a "whooooo" sound when I turn the car off on hot days.

We are finally getting some heat here in the Seattle area and I have noticed that on really hot days when I turn my TT off I get this "whoooo" kind of howling noise for about 5 or 6 seconds. Sounds like its coming from the area near the A/C unit. I usually have it set to about 68 or so. Also when I first start my car up, the vents kick in and I get a strange smell kind of like damp sleeping bag or something.. kind of hard to explain, but its only on really hot days when I use A/C. Should I be worried? Car is out of warranty.

Default I have noticed the same noice when turning the car off on really hot days...

I have also noticed a slight rattle noise coming from the engine when the AC is on. I think JazziTT had this noise before.

Default The two are likely not related. The damp smell is likely mildew in your vents and that's a bitch.

It's very difficult to get rid of and will likely have to be handled professionally unless you inclined to do something like that.

On the other hand, the "whoooo" is likely a manifestation from the spirit world taken up residence in your car. You'll also need a professional for that....an excorcist that is. Hopefully it's not the blower fan bearings going up....

Default I have that rattle too, I told the dealership about it, and they

said it was probably dry leaves in there or something and never ever fixed it.

Default I have the same noise problem.

Posted about it yesterday with no real answers. It seriously kills my ears to hear. Uggghhh, I hate going to the dealer.

Default I'd wager most people have a relatively stinky ***, but it's probably not due to mildew.

Default It's more than likely your thermostatic expansion valve. Nothing to worry about, unless it bugs you,

or your a/c goes out (unlikely).
