Ok..i'm thinking about painting the calipers on our M-B tomorrow. The calipers are not painted at all right now(bare metal, unlike the TT calipers IIRC). Does this mean that in addition to cleaning the caliper with brake cleaner and a degreaser, i should also apply some primer to the caliper before painting? Also, should I sand the caliper or use some steel wool on it before painting (yes i did search and it appears that different people have done different things)? Thanks so much...I will definitely post some pics if i ever get this done ;-)
for some audi content, i'll add that i'm also thinking about doing this to our A6 :-)

I did them like that on my '93 vette and they held up great. Tried the high temp spray can method and they seemed to stain since the paint would become soft.

I painted my calipers nearly two years ago. Cleaned them with a wire brush, and painted by hand with a brush while they were still on the car.
I used high temp engine paint, and they still look really good. I didn't prime them at all, or use any sort of clearcoat, but that probably wouldn't hurt.

is that the ones i'm painting are NOT painted at all already(oh ya, and they're much bigger.. ;-). If you look at the TT calipers, they are already painted a grey color if I'm not mistaken.

I put two coats of color and two coats of clear.
I felt better using auto paint since it just seems to be more durable. Of course I had all the tools since I work at my fathers collision shop. Dissassemble as much of em as possible.
On my Vette I did the caliper bracket in a bright silver-I used the engine paint on them(sorry for kinda lying) and I did the caliper in red to match the car. The two colors gave it a component look-looked cool compared to buddy's car that he did em all red.

Your picture looks the same as what I painted. Mine were on a Volvo C70. As I said, still looks good after 2 years. Just a pain to clean the damn brake dust on the fronts.
