My service manager is interested though... He just bought a Turbo Jetta. Says there is all kinds of similar issues on VW Vortex (site). All other dealers said that they either didn't know about the issue or, that A of A was working on a solution.
My car is shot! No power, Coke bottle, lift off, lack of power! We need anwers and A of A is not helping. I am calling them on Monday.
Wish me luck or, wish me patience. I need both.

I have a 2000 180TTQ and I previously thought I was immune to the DV prob. At first people seemed to say this was a 225 prob.
Now it affects 180 hp engines too? Anyone out there with a 2000 180hp TT had this problem yet?
It seems to me its only been the 225 guys so far. I have 7k miles on my TT and no problems yet...

I have a Bailey Motorsport diverter valve on order from Todd of AWE. I have what might be termed "lift-off throttle rattle", a noise that occurs when lifting off the throttle, and which is very metallic sounding. One might even mistake it for heat shield rattle. Only it isn't. To be fair, I have a chipped 180Q, which could contribute to the problem...but I know of other chipped 180 TTs do not have it...yet. And there have been other 180s who have reported the problem...as far as I can figure it, it's just a matter of time. For all of us.

This is NOT a TT issue, but a 1.8T engine issue. The 1.8T engine that VW/Audi are putting into their cars have bad DV's. The reason is it becoming more prevalant is that more of these engines are being produced now.
The transverse mounted engine that is in the TT's, Golf/Jetta has shorter turbo plumbing than the A4/Passat does in the same engine. The difference between the platforms is the direction of the engine. The TT/Golf/Jetta is turned east/west because of the Fwd platform. the A4/Passat has the engine turned north/south. I was told today that the A4/Passat has the same issues with the same DV, the part number is the same on ALL of the engines. the A4/passat just takes more miles to appear it seems.
What it really seems to be is a hp/torque issue along with the engine direction.
The 225TT is the most powerful of the 1.8T engines in their stock configuration. The A4 was 150hp, now it is 170. The Golf/Jetta is the 170hp version.
This problem is all over www.vwvortex.com
I have 20,500 on my 2000 180TTQ and my DV is fine . . .as of now. I am have ordered a Bailey DV to be put in when I get it. I will save the OEM DV and store it in the car.

well, you get the picture. And so far, they can't pull it out...well, maybe eventually. But I'm not sure I want to wait that long. And I'm not convinced that anyone else should either. I'm worried about damage to the turbo, which in my case they may blame on the chip, rather than on their defective diverter valve, because, after all, "its a 225 HP problem". Right. And I have this bridge in Brooklyn...

Thanks for the info. Even though I've had no problems as of yet, I'm definitely going to get a Bailey DV ASAP now. I'm getting my car chipped next week and don't want to take any risks.
Someone should add something to the FAQ about this. Including something that gives instructions on installing it yourself. Otherwise I have a feeling that we are going to hear _a lot_ more about DV issues on this forum as more and more people have this problem.

and it was cleared up by installation of the Bailey Motorsport diverter valve. Michael Imboden may be the "be all and end all" of Audi technicians, but I can't believe he missed this one. He's just plain wrong! And am I surprised! Wouldn't have thought he would have denied a change in DV. Wow!
