Default Can I shoehorn a 255 on a 7.5" rim???

I'm currently running a 245/40/17 Pilot Sport on a 7.5" rim. I want to run a 255/40/17 Kumho Victoracer on my track wheels. Do you think it will work?

Default

I would say 245 is pretty much your safe limit on a 7.5 rim but I could be wrong

Default The 245 fits really nice (not bowed or anything)....

I could sure use that extra 30mm in the back Would it hurt anything to try it? Is the worst thing that could happen would be rubbing?

Default It depends on which tire it is also ...

not all tires have the same section width (for example, Kumho's tires range from 8.9" to 9.2" (depending on the model).

So, a bigger cross section width might make it more difficult to install the tire on a 7.5" wheel.

Default the worst that could happen is that your tire will rollover while you take a corner!

you could do some serious damage to you car that way, quite apart from the fact that it could cause a serious RTA...

Default If you haven't done so already, check the spec sheet on the tire

most tire manufacturers have the acceptable rim widths for each tire on their web sites.

As far as the things that could go wrong...especeially in AX or track conditions, the tire could pop off the rim?

Default Yes but why? Linked is the Michelin guide for the Pilot cups....

Tires are designed to work on a particular rim. You have a certain amount of lattitude but as Steve said the 245's look to be the recomended max performance wise.

http://michelinman.com/assets/pdfs/doc_pilotsportcup.pdf</a
