for me? The parts guys at the dealership are IDIOTS and have no idea what this part is or what it is supposed to do (even after I attempted to explain the different sensors and components of the ESP system in simple terms). So they can't find the part until I come back with a part number.

I went after work the other day. They couldn't even locate it in the diagrams. They asked if I had actually seen the part. All I know it is located under/behind the glove box, and mine is bad (as indicated by the ESP and ABS lights and the DTC I am getting with a VAG scan). I don't want to remove the glove box until I have the replacement part in hand, ready to go in.
The dealership closer to my house is typically more competent, but I can't get there during the week before they close.

OK Now I remember. I am a bit tired today. I scanned my car a week ago because the ESP light was coming on, CAG said something about a lateral ABS blah blah, but basically my battery is bum, wont hold a charge at all, going to dealer today. Having a lot of other electrical issues,

I find myself really worried when I can out-tech-speak people at a dealer that actually get paid to do this.

Prior to chassis number 8N-2-014 401, the sensor was split into yaw - 1J0 907 657 A and accelleration - 1J0 907 651 A, after that chassis number, it's a combo sensor and is 7E0 907 652 A for quattro (should be yours) and 7E0 907 655 A for FWD.
For your parts guy, it's in group 9 subgroup 27.

This is the code I got:
Address 03 -------------------------------------------------------
Controller: 8N0 907 379 E
Component: ESP 20 CAN V005
Coding: 18446
Shop #: WSC 01236
1 Fault Found:
01279 - Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251)
27-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
From the Bentley repair manual:
Longitudinal acceleration sensor -G251-, removing and installing
Removing
- Remove glove box:
Repair Manual , Body Interior, Repair Group 68; Trays, compartments and trim
- Unplug electrical connector -2-
- Use a screwdriver to pry mount off longitudinal acceleration sensor -arrows- and remove sensor -G251- -1-.
Note: The longitudinal acceleration sensor is not resistant to shocks or impact.
Do not install a sensor which has dropped to the ground otherwise proper operation is not ensured.
Installing
Install in reverse sequence; note the following points:
- Initiate basic setting for longitudinal acceleration sensor -G251-.
