Chipped (Stage 1) 180Coupe Quattro vs. Stock 225Coupe Quattro
#23
Get the 225... It's faster and you'll have a warranty for the many times it breaks...
I know there are some people on here that think a chipped 180 is faster, I seriously doubt it... When it comes to 1/4 mile times, the stock 180 is at a 1.5 second deficit... While I'm sure the chip does wonders, that's a whole lot of time to make up for. You could probably get a FWD 180 to run even with (and MAYBE beat) a 225 if you get a chip + exhaust. The thought of driving a fwd car with that much power doesn't sound like much fun though. You'd probably have a lot of torque steer / wheel hop / no traction...
Another think to keep in mind is that the TT is not the most reliable car around, and you'll probably want to keep your warranty. It's probably the only thing keeping me from chipping my 225. With all the times I've had to have warranty work done on it in the past 1.5 years, I can tell you that I don't want to pay for it myself...

Hey Larry with a hard clutch dump...I can match or beat that 6.2 not saying
I could beat ya mind you...but with my super light wheels....IF I snap off a launch at 5000rpm you are toast!!! Larry you need to get the K04.... by the time you are done tuning it the way you want to..Im sure you will appreciate the extra power...

I don't want any part of a K04. Not the way to tune this engine.
The K04 is not an improvement over the K03 chipped/exhaust. The K04 has way too much lag as compared to the small benefit you are getting. I will wait until a Staeg 3/3+ kit comes out. To me a K04 is a Stage 2 kit.
Dave, the question was a STOCK 225, adding lighter wheels does not make your car stock anymore! Hell, I can add light wheels and then include my brakes and everything else I have done. You won't beat me until you add a chip to your car.

Not by enough for me to justify the expense.
I have driven a K04 equipped 180. it is fast, but not fast enough for the $2,000 cost. For someone else it might be enough, for me losing the bottom end is not what I want.

Chipped 180 vs. 225 stock - no - add the exhaust and I think it's gonna be so close
and really dependent on the driver. The 180 Coupe is 100 lbs lighter, and the chip and exhaust provide substantially more torque than the 225 has stock. Since gearing is identical in terms of final drive - i'd expect it to be too close to call.
