Default Nice install! Is there a reason you went with the Clarion unit and not >>

the Pioneer unit? HU size is shorter left to right in your install, but what about the Pioneer unit? or have you've seen it?

Default The Pioneer also comes with a "brain box"

and I had a really hard time finding a place for it, which is why I switched from the VRX935VD to the VRX745VD.

That brain box didn't even fit behind the glove box, where I presently have the Sirius receiver.. and I didn't want to take the whole car apart to route all the wires to the trunk.

Default does this unit also support GPS? and NAV maps? and tie into the >>

cluster on the dash? you know, like it does with the OEM version.

Default Yes it is.

But I also wanted to avoid the headache associated with having wires running to the brain box which would have to be located elsewhere..

Check out this sketch I drew after realizing the VRX935VD wouldn't work out easily:

<img src="http://hitechgti.50megs.com/audi/headunit/husetup.jpg">

As you can see, most connections would have to be made to the brain box with the VRX935VD, including constant and switched power. The head unit would have constant power and ground, plus a fairly thick CeNet cable back to the brain box.

With the VRX745VD, everything except Sirius (which is optional) goes to the HU.
Much cleaner IMHO!!

My house is actually in Sunnyvale, but I spend most my week-ends (and part of the week) in SF with my girlfriend. I work down in Campbell, so it's a bit of a pain..

The unit IS touch-screen, so are most other ones I've seen (not early Pioneer units though).

Let me know when/where you want to stop by, I'm assuming you're in Stanford?

No, I don't think any after-market unit supports the OEM cluster..
