The inserts are alcantara, which is a synthetic suede, not cloth/rubber. This to me has many advantages including :-
Non slip
Non sticky in hot weather
Non burning - after being parked in the sun
Non butt freezing - for those without heated seats
Also, from a personal viewpoint they give even more texture to the interior, make the light grey interior look less plastic and lighten up the dark grey interior (which I have) to make it look less sombre.
Just my opinions,

I got an early car (last July), and my only "choice" was full leather, so that's what I got. Our local autocross events are run at a track facility, so the speeds tend a bit towards the high end, at least for autocross, and during every run I spend way too much time thinking "Man, I"ve got to get a harness for this car!" That leather is slippery, and I'd swap it for the nubby stuff in an instant, just for that reason.

I have the cloth/leather combo, and I'm really glad I was able to convince my dealer to order the car that way. Not only does it seem more practical than the full leather, it looks great, and it is another distinctive feature of the TT.
