clunking under car

My 2000 ttc has started making some weird noise underneath the car while going over bumps. It's like a double "clunk, clunk". It's more noticeable at slow speeds. Anyone had this? I jacked the car up, checked what suspension I could, all I found was a loose cable close to one of the heat shields. Any other ideas. My car is out of warranty and I hate letting the dealer guess at what is wrong.

issue for the past year or so. I'm sure the dealer will blame my suspension mods, but if you've checked the archives you'll find that many people without modifications have had the same issue.
I've removed everything from the front seats rearward (inside the TT rear seat, panels, trunk liner, spare tire & all tools) and the noise persists. I've sprayed silicone on all rear suspension bushings, too. My last step will be to remove the bushing brackets for the rear sway bar and lube inside the bushings. I actually tried this before, but had to abort before getting the exhaust completely dropped.
The archives say it's either the sway bar bushings, or the upper control arm bushing where it meets the hub.
If you figure it out, by all means shoot me an email & let me know.

The shocks put some restriction on the axle movement, so when hitting over bumps, if there is any rubber mount loose or worn on either end of the shock it will make the double 'thump' noise. The easiest way to check this in to jerk each corner up/dn (one end at a time....) and have someone else watch the rubber mount underneath and inside the car (up front is easy, rears... diff story). If nothing found, jack the car and with the wheel on the air (and car secured by the body, not the axle) jerk the axle up/dn/ and in/out to check for any excesive endplay. Sway bar is barely moving when over bumps so it should not be the source.
