Default Cluster failure behavior?

Just refueled after noticing the empty tank warning light on. Now the fuel warning light is staying on, and the "miles to empty" indicator reads 0. Oh, and fuel gauge is dead on empty.

Does this sound like a cluster going south, or the sender, or some combination of problems?

I know there are plenty of experts out there...

Default Senders since both the gauge and the readout are messed up

Try the techron treatment for starters.

Default Re: Senders since both the gauge and the readout are messed up

My Mother's car is having the same problem all of a sudden. The battery was dead this morning. I just jumped it and now the low fuel light is on and the gas gauge is on "E" even though she swears she has at least 3/4 tank left. Does this mean the sending unit needs to be replaced? Or is it just something that needs to be reset?

Thanks,
Stu.
