coke bottle resonance?

O.k. guys. You are starting to make me paranoid. I haven't noticed any performance problems with my car. But after hearing all of these comments about faulty diverter valves, I keep finding myself listening closely for honks, coke bottle whistling, etc.
I definitely haven't heard any honking. I haven't heard any "springy" sounds either. And I sure as hell haven't felt the car bucking.
The only thing I've noticed is that the car will resonate sometimes when I am on the highway at highway speed. This apparently happens regardless of the engine's rpm or gear. Rather than a coke bottle whistling, it sounds more like the droning of a vacuum cleaner, but much quieter. I have a feeling it is just the tires reacting in a strange way to the highway surface in Dallas. I had a car that made a similar sound in the past.
What I am wondering is the coke bottle sound that people hear that's caused by the diverter valves--is this a continuous sound or does it fluctuate? Does it get louder, softer? Does it stop and start again? Is this the "vacuum cleaner" resonance I am hearing? Does it happen at low speeds also, such as when you downshift to second? Is this something that would definitely get your attention if it were occurring?
Also, is there any truth to the rumor that this was caused by a defect in the production process that has since been corrected?
Any insight would be appreciated.

The pitch does not waver, and the phenomenon itself occurs under acceleration while passing through the RPMs - sometimes it happens twice during the under normal upshifting. It usually occurs around 2900-3000 RPM, but can occur at others. It can also occur at neutral acceleration, i.e., while cruising at speed, again almost always at around 2900-3000. It sounds different to my ear from the tire noise you describe that is common on some roads, partly because the sound eminates from under the hood or in front of you, rather than from underneath you. If it were just the noise it would be merely annoying, but with the ptoential for turbo damage, the irritaion goes up the scale to 'must fix'. Hope that helps.

With more than 3K miles, I've yet to hear any indication of a problem with the diverter. In fact, I have had ZERO problems with my TT. I will now knock on simulated wood.
