Default Comments and pictures from Autocrossing yesterday...

So, yesterday was my first time ever entering and being at an autocross event and learned I love it.. I had a smile on my face the whole time and b.c of that one of the event staff asked me where the girl was hiding in the car.. It was soo much fun that Im gonna buy a car for racing.. Im looking for an old golf or rabbit for racing, something cheap (around 1000, maybe less).. I want to buy something that runs and then turn it into a porsche owners nightmare no engine mods just the important stuff (suspension, roll cage, seats, and tires )..
I learned yesterday that power doesn't do jack for you, its all about the suspension, tires and drivers skills.. You can have the fastest car and still get destroyed, just look at the overall standings As for the results, I placed last in my class (raced against a vette, NSX, Turbo celica with AWD, Altima, Larry, and Boxster) but I was able to beat 2 people overall, a civic and yes I did beat an M3 .. If I had a set of high performance tires and coilovers I would have done better but the area that needs the most help is my driving (the lincoln ride isn't meant for racing).. I did however get advice from the greatest driver there which is without a doubt Larry.. Even with snowtires he was able to keep up with the best .. He took me out for a ride around the course in his TT twice which was a little scary but definitely a blast.. He even walked me through the course twice showing me what lines to take and how to drive the course..
On the first run I drove my car like it was stolen which cost me big time (got a 67.XX), then on the second run larry took a ride with me and showed me where I was messing up then the third run I did it larrys way (tried keeping momentum) and ran a 57.XX.. Then we all broke for lunch which gave me a chance to chat with everyone and it also gave me a chance for my first *normal* ride in a TT (Larrys ride was too scary to enjoy .. Then we got some air in our tires which helped me out a little.. I also got a chance to work the track and watched people drive their cars like they were stolen, do 360's, do burnouts, go the wrong way, and got a chance to extract more hints from the master himself.. Then I went to NJ to reinstalled my stereo along with the rear seats then I drove my car home like it was stolen at 1am..
Autocrossing gave me a chance to meet a great bunch of guys and also gave me the chance to learn more about my car and how to drive.. On the way home I was able to take those skills learned earlier in the day and apply them to street driving which almost landed me a ticket for 50 in a 30 but I got lucky and the cop just rode my *** for a couple of minutes and let me go.. Also on the way home I was able to take turns a lot faster and smoother b.c of the autocrossing.. If anyone is interested in learning more about their car and driving I strongly suggest they check out autocrossing.. Even if you don't want to drive you car like a maniac (smoking tires, and losing traction) you can take it a little slower and still have a blast..

Larry sporting his beautiful helmet..

Waiting to run the course.. The cars in front were mine and Larrys competition.. Oh the nsx ran a 55 which is a second faster then me.. Its a shame a kid in a 4dr family sedan can keep up with an 80,000 race-bred car.. Just wait till i get my golf..

Beauty and the beast.. Is it a car or is it a truck? With all that lift id consider it a truck.. Must by springs..
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/5675/larrys_tt_and_maxima.jpg"border=1>

One of the fastest cars there.. No, abs, no engine mods (just an aluminum cam gear), teeny tiny exhaust, coilovers and rims.. This car proves its all about the driver and suspension..

Some E30 M3's which did well on the track.

Default The trouble some of us go through to race ..

The maxima with everything gone.. Felt a little faster, but it handles the highway better with the system in, probably b.c it gets me closer to the 50-50% weight ratio..
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/5675/rear_seats_gutted.jpg">

Without the seats the car was VERY loud when driving.. When I drove my friend around he thought the windows were open..
<img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/5675/rear_of_car_gutted.jpg">

ah ready for daily driving.. Soo much more fun without the seats and system though (190 pounds makes a big difference)..
