Default Dealer still has 2004 TT S-line

I started this thread about a month ago when I found a 2004 TT s-line at a Toyota dealer. It has 66,000 miles and they are asking $16,900 but I am sure they would accept much less since they have had it on their lot since February. The cluster is starting to fail. I was able to contact the previous owner and he said he bought it with 64,000 miles on it and had to sell it for financial reasons after owning is just one year. He said he loved the car and had no problems, but he only put 2,000 miles on it. When I asked the salesman if I could take it to my mechanic to check it out - he said no. That made me pause. The only similar model that I have been able to find is a three hour drive away and it is not my favorite color. So I am still looking.

I did find a front wheel drive 4 cylinder TT with 64,000 miles nearby. The body and paint are in great shape. I was able to speak to the the previous owner and he said it had been a great car for him. He was the second owner and put on about 30,000 miles - mostly highway. It is a dark blue (moro blue), which I have not seen on a lot of TTs. They are asking $12,000 for it and I am tempted. Mostly because the car has a good service history and is cosmetically very clean. It drove well, but I am afraid if I do not buy a TT with all wheel drive, I will be disappointed (I already have an A4 cabriolet with front wheel drive and it is a fine car but obviously does not handle as well as a car with all wheel drive). Any advise appreciated.

AWD vs. FWD.....depends on where you live and how you drive. Did not think my FWD MK1 and AWD MK1 much different in the snow....the car is so light that even with good tires +/- AWD it was realitively easy to lose traction. Feel that my MK2 AWD is in a different (and better) class vs. the MK1 AWD but does not quite reach the impressive bad weather ride of the A4 I owned (was a tank in the snow, quite amazing!). Cornering? Thought the MK1 FWD very impressive and sufficient unless you REALLY pushed the car and then there was the gasp and possible brown striping of the undies due to losing traction (not me....the wife LOL). If just for daily driving and fun in weather that is not extreme, an FWD will suffice. If you like to take the corners fast, go on/off ramps at a high rate of speed, etc...you might find the FWD a bit limiting.

BTW, I traded in my 2004 S-line 3.2L DSG last year and the dealership got ~25k for it (had 26k miles).
