Coolant temp warning light goes on

My coolant temp warning light has been flashing about once per week when I start the car up in the mornings. It goes away after about 30 seconds, and doesn't go on again while driving. The temp needle seems to stay in the normal range.
Any thoughts on this?

the metal rods which poke down into the coolant apparently get coated with something which prevents them from sensing properly (oxidized?) I used some wet or dry emory cloth wrapped around the end of a wooden stick and lightly sanded the rods through the opening. It's been fine for over a year now.

try adding a little coolant or distilled water. I had the same problem about 3 months ago, added about 6-8 oz. distilled water, no more problems. Any more than this and I would be afraid I was diluting coolant too much.
