It's the hose that runs just below the MAF and air intake. It splits into two seperate hoses, one that goes to the manifold and the other part I didn't see where it connected but it went down between the engine and manifold. You can see the hairline crack running into that dam light spot on the photo.
I'm thinking of having someone step on the gas a little bit while I check the hose to see if the tiny cracks actually do have a leak.
I'm waiting on my vag but still trying to do troubleshooting when I have the time.
Also,
I thought I'd unplug the MAF completely and have the ecu run on stored/preprogrammed values, thereby/hoping to prove or disprove it was the MAF.
It does seem to temporarily get rid of the check engine light, (but esp light stays on).
But once driving around the block I still feel a slight shudder and if I'm not smooth and slow with rpms check engine will flash on for a bit then go away.
A Recap: Possible MAF problem, checkengine came on when pedal pushed. Have tried cleanning MAF , didn't seem to help but got esp light and checkengine light, and when foot off of clutch when in idle get get clicking noise, put foot on gas and sound goes away.

slipped off under WOT - didn't know it at the time of course but the car shook fairly well - hooked that loose hose back up and all was well - so, yeah, I guess its possible!
