Default Coupe Bose System Fader Turned Off

Does anyone know if the fader function can be turned ON in the Bose system in a Coupe?

Also, why it is OFF from the factory? Thanks.

Default Re: Coupe Bose System Fader Turned Off

Dr. Bose in his infinite wisdom decided that all humans have exactly the same hearing ability and listening preferences as he does. So he hardcoded his systems to suit his taste and his ears (not mine and not yours I assume.)

D'oh! He's wrong! The only way to turn this function on is to have the headunit re-coded to think that it's a non-Bose Audi Concert radio. This will boost the bass but has other side effects that you may not like (over driving the input impedance to the Bose amps causes distortion at higher volume levels.)

Your options may be to replace the cheapa$$ Bose drivers with some with a greater frequency range, tap the rear speakers and add a line level converter so you can add a sub-woofer, or replace the while thing (see LarryTT's site for his ultimate upgrade.) Of course, you can get used to it as I did - I am pondering adding a powered sub later on though.

Default I personally did not like the sound of the changes to the BOSE with the fader on...

it doesn't actually allow you to fade, just turns the feature on and does exactly what Isloman says.

It sounds terrible, but some people here like it.

The rear speakers are just subwoofers anyway. Turn the bass up if you want them louder.

I was told by my dealer that disabling the fader is a part of the Bose system. Since the rear speakers are just woofers, and there is a lot of stereo trickery going on with the center dash speaker, there is no real function for a fader.

I understand that you can reprogram the head unit to disable the Bose changes, but that also disables the system equalization, which pretty much deafeats what you pay $1200 to get, it would seem.

Default Thanks, Folks - appreciate the insights

I've got the bass all the way down now. Still too "boomy" in some situations for my taste. I wasn't aware that the rear speakers were woofers only.
