Default Cracked Windshield BT

Bigger than the repairable kind of crack. What am I looking at in terms of cost? (not one of those states where it's a required full coverage).

Anything to watch out for? Oem a necessity?

Default I just did mine a few weeks ago...

Mine cracked and I had Glass Doctor (Harman glass) come over to my garage to replace the windshield for me. The total cost ran me about $345(220 for the windshield and 125 for the labor). The whole process was done in 40 minutes and the person who came over was very, very good at it. I am very happy with the results.
Also, there is a 1-year warranty on the windshield so should the windshield break again within a year, I would only need to pay for the labor to have it replaced with a brand new one.

Hope it helps

Default About the same quote here, for OEM. The aftermarket windshields don't fit well?

I tried STFA a while back and didn't see too much. The non-OEM choice was about $150 cheaper. I've been told that the OEM 'shield has a layer of UV protection somewhere in there, and I was curious whether or not an aftermarket 'shield would have the same. Anyone know?

BTW, it's a great time to have that **** carpet installed on the dash....

Thanks,

Rich

Default every aftermarket windshield for my GTI/TT (3) did not fit well, the curves. I had the place redo

it last time with OEM.
they were not happy, but niether was I with the poor fit, and the fact they got goo all over the 'A' pillars
one side was literally sticking out 1/4" and they filled it with goo.

Default Umm... mine seems to fit pretty well...

and it has the green tint and shades on the top edge. As far as I can tell, it is identical to my oem one.

Default I did mine a month ago! Rock on the highway coming...

from the opposite lane. Sounded like a bullet and almost caused as much damage. I paid $350.00 for my replacement.

Default Interestingly enough Jeff, my '83 GTI had the same problem

The dealer made a big deal about it, had to have an expert to do it blah blah blah and the install was awful with many of the problems you cited.
