it is a wet manifold, meaning that the manifold is in place after the air/fuel have been mixed. With the advent of fuel injection we no longer need wet manifolds, we then use a dry manifold (no fuel only air).
The reason a wet manifold needs to be rough is so that the air gets a lot of movement which in turn keeps the fuel well mixed for it's entrance into the cylinder.
A dry manifold can probably get away with being rough, but it really should be smooth to facilitate maximum air flow. I am going to see a local machine shop about at least polishing it out.
I personally DGAS, because it's going into my no matter what. To much time/effort/$$$ put into this project for it not to happen.
