Is this something I can do myself and can I buy an aftermarket cat for less money? Or are there other options out there?

Default You can get and install a Neuspeed or Borla catback exhaust...

and still save about 300 bucks over that quote. Run away from that dealer.

Unless your car is FWD.. then it's even less... like $149 I think.

Seems to me a CAT would fall under the extended emissions warranty...

Default Other choices>>>

but make sure you go with at least 200cell..a 100cell CAT can generate not enough back pressure for the rear o2 sensor....and then you get LOTS of CELs(check engine lite)..

Also keep in mind, some have done complete CUSTOM turbo back exhaust/cat setups for not a lot more than that.....

How do they know the CAT is bad?

Default The dealer said that...it's covered up to 80,000. I have a APR chip and aftermarket DV...

They noticed the DV but not the chip so the guy said that the DV might void the warrenty. Do I have a way around that.

Default Sure, have them explain the purpose of a DV and how an aftermarket one could directly lead to

cat failure. Don't see how it could.
