Red Hot Ferrari Blazes In
Feast your eyes on the 'hottest' Ferrari ever - the all-new FX. Although it may be the car to leave even the fabled McLaren F1 trailing in its wake, development has been plagued with difficulties. In the most serious incident, a prototype was destroyed by fire as it was being driven at the firm's Italian test track.
Despite the fact that the car carried extinguishers, and a fire engine was on hand, flames reduced the carbon bodywork to ashes in less than an hour.
Work to get the supercar finished for its official debut at the Paris Motor Show in September has continued flat-out. Customer deliveries of the Ferrari, which is expected to cost around £350,000, start in December. Tipped to be powered by a 6.0-litre 600bhp V12 engine, the newcomer should be able to sprint from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds, while the top speed is set to exceed 220mph.
However, fans in Japan - a hugely important market- will get a sneak preview of the car this week. Designer Ken Okuyama, a Japanese stylist who also penned the 2000 Ferrari Rossa, is expected to reveal the new model in a Tokyo art gallery. Still referred to by its FX codename, rumours suggest that the car could be called F60, but the name Enzo - in tribute to Ferrari's founder - is another possibility. Giancarlo Perini
