This may have been written about already - but the wreck of Peter Hommell doesn't appear to be spoiler-fitted. It almost looks like (although I have no idea what the other side is like) it lifted like a sail and struck the tree - it doesn't appear to be a spin-out. I'm guessing the back end lifted, he tried to correct and made contact.
If it weren't a problem with the car - and it struck something in the road (or clipped a guard rail), it would prduce the same result. I was once behind a car that got its nose clipped - and the car that hit them (a pretty heavy Saab) took off into the air like a newspaper in the wind. I was amazed to see it do a tail-over-head flip and land on its roof (especially since it wasn't going really fast - maybe 40?). Ugly.
