Default Did I make a mistake buying this thing?

OK, I bought a 2001 TT (180hp) last October with only has 40,000 miles and I'm wondering if I made a big mistake. It's been in the shop for 2 1/2 months for everything from bad wiring to suspension problems. I've seen several different sites on the web talking about what a piece of junk this car is, so I'm hoping it's not typical of this car. Please help put my mind at ease...

Default Typical of any vehicle, some here have over 100k with few problems....

The newer models may have some problems corrected, but there are still some cluster, coil pak etc problems that are still out there. Good luck.

Default At 6-7 years of age, a new suspension will be a major improvement.

I dunno about wiring problems.

Sounds like the prior owner deferred a lot of maintenance. If you'd been tweaking these issues over the course of 6-7 years, you wouldn't mind.

if you can't work on it. save yourself the pain. mine has been great but i also spend time on preventative maintenance and enjoy working on it.

Default Some are good some are bad-mines had no major problems in 6+yrs

I too have heard the stories and consider myself lucky I guess. I had a bad dv valve, mass air flow sensor covered under warranty. I then had the water pump go around 60k and payed for that along with belt and tensioner but I consider that normal maintenance. That was the only real money I put into mine in repairs in the 6 years I have owned it not counting oil changes and new tires.

Default Welcome to Audi! My TT visited the dealer 17 times in the first 1.5 years

I have a 2001 also and that model year was particularly buggy. Many of the common issues seemed to be resolved in later model years. Not too many 2001's left on this forum as most of the original owners got fed up with the constant problems. I on the other hand have stuck it out and still own my TT after 6.5 years and 147,000 miles. However, it has always had something wrong with it at all times. Not what I expected when I bought it, and will also be the last Audi I buy.

Default 7 years old it will require new suspension. As for wiring, the one report...

I've heard on the 1.8T is the fuel injector harness.

2-1/2 months? Fire your shop. It doens't take that long, and isn't that expensive.

I have a 2000 180T with lots of bells and whistles. 110K miles, and I track it. Something else has gotten into your Audi. PM is required on high-strung cars, just like horses and boats. But this is one of my most satisfying car experiences in 40 years.
