Default Diet

can anyone suggest realistic things i can do to lighten my car without spending too much $$? (under $500)

throw all the garbage out... no CD~ what else? just curious how much weight i could actually save.

oh, and by removing the spare tire, would the car be too un-balance?

Default All good questions..........

While doing the audio/video job for my TT I have the left and right dashes out and rear seat out. Amazing how much all those things weigh.

Might see if moving the battery to the rear would help. Removing weight from the front helps all the nose heaviness our car has.

The Z06 did a great job of getting weight out of itself over the stock corvette. Unfortunately, the things they did were expensive and not applicable to us. But it does show that if a car mfg. wants to reduce weight they can do it.

For the heck of it, I plan to do an autocross with no passenger seat, no rear seat, glove box removed, spare gone, and 1/4 tank of gas. That would have to reduce weight by ~130 lbs or more. I could probably skip breakfast too. )

Default Don't bother....>

YOu've got a heavy roadster to start. Not much you can remove that will make any difference at all.

Default Yeah, its heavy, but you CAN do things >>>>

like moving the battery to the rear, and getting a lightweight racing battery, lightweight seats, lightweight wheels etc.

Removing engine bay plastic, maybe a few lbs there, no biggie. The spare will also help with weight.

If you are feeling a hardcore, you can remove the secondary air injection system - that could net you somewhere around 30-40lbs. Also the stock exhaust isnt terribly light - a well made 3" turboback could shed some lbs.

On the secondary air removal:

Default Yeah...Go to a lot of work..>>

and compromise some systems on your car For a lousy 100lbs? Do the math. C'mon "Boosted", you can do better than that...

40lbs for the secondary air injection? The biggest part is a freakin PLASTIC pump. Do you make this stuff up?

Default I beg to differ :)

Secondary will be around 30-40lb. Spare, tools etc another 20-30? Lightweight wheels, lightweight battery, figure you can drop another 60-70 easy (my stocker weighs 37lbs, my Braille 11.5). 10-20lbs easy with a properly built exhaust, and what, 30ish with some really light seats?

Thats near 200lbs..... I didnt say you had to, or it was for everyone, but its very do-able. And 200+lbs is a LOT of weight, esp when racing.

Alternatively, I can suggest the Jenny Craig diet..... j/k

btw Schwing, you going to be a TT West? I'd love to give you a ride in my car, so you can judge for yourself if what I say and do is up to snuff
