Default Digital camera for home-printing? reccomendations..

I know this has been discussed many times before but I ask again because I have a specific need, home printing.. What I want to do is print the photos I take (very important), send photos to friends via email and of course post them here on audiworld.. Two things I need help with :what printer and digital camera to purchase .. The printer I was thinking about is the HP deskjet 1220C but I would like to hear what you guys & gals recomend (since you are always very helpful).. As for the camera I am thinking of the canon G1 or possibly the Sony dsc-s70.. For this price range what else should I be looking at and if you were in my position what would you get? Thanks for all your help.

John

Default Not for nothing, but..

I have the Olympus D460 (1.3) and want to upgrade to the D490z (2.1) The pictures come out great on the 460, but even better on the 490Z. You can find the 490Z for about $400.00.

Default LOTs of things to consider - but you might want to check zdnet.com.....

They have ratings and reviews for many cameras and printers. Best printers for home photos IMHO are the Epson 870 (8x10) or 1270 (wide 13X17 format). They both have semi-archival inks and papers - good for 10-20 years or more. 870 is less than $200 now. Best cameras - Nikon 990, Fuji 470 or Leica digilux 4.3... or the newer Sony's. You need at least 3.3 megpix to do a good 11x17 print - 2 meg for good 8x10.

Default Printer-wise I think my Canon 8200 inkjet prints excellent photos

on the Canon Photo Paper pro. I have framed 8x10's and you can't tell the difference between 35mm without a magnifying glass.

Camera is Kodak DC280, which is old skool by today's standards.

Default HP 970cse

We recently picked one of these up to replace an old printer. It does a fabulous job. Hard to tell the difference between prints - photo printing and ink jet.

Default Deff. go with the S70!!

The photo quality from the zeiss lens blows everything away.

What I do however, after looking at not only the cost for the printer, but for the paper and ink etc as well... I found www.ofoto.com a much better option. The prints are so much better than anything a consumer printer could ever print out, and cheaper in the long run (that paper and ink is expensive!)

ofoto uses Kodak professional photo paper, prints that are impossible to distinquish from traditional silver halide film prints. compare .49cents per 4x6 print to the cost of 4x6 consumer home printer paper at 16 bucks for 25 sheets, plus an ink pack/ribbon at 40 bucks that only lasts 25 prints as well

Plus you get unlimited storage in nice little albums that you can share with all your friends (beats sending huge files over email.... long send time... and long dowload time for your friends and family too... I hate that!)

I would recommend Epson Stylus Photo 1290 (brand new model) and the Canon G1. It's a perfect combo!

Default FWIW, the Epson models always get the highest ratings in the magazine reviews. Whatever model ....

you end up going with, I'd suggest something with separate color ink cartridges so you don't have to replace the whole thing if you're just out of one color.

Default I 'had' that printer, HP 1220C. I wouldn't recommend it for photo printing.

I would get a more specific photo printer if I was you. I do have great things to say about my G1. Its a great camera if you have an SLR experience or want to get into photography. You can email with questions about the G1, I love it.

Default I have a Epson 1270. Amazing pix. Very quiet. But...there's a problem with cyan ink fade.

just type "orange shift epson" on google or any search engine and you will find info on it.
The problem is found on:
Eps0n 870
Epson 875
Epson 1270
I havent had a problem with it myself, though.
