Great time to buy winter wheels/tires if you need them.
I think I'm going to grab the Kumho Ecsta ASX for my fat-5s for winter. $284 shipped! Tire Rack ranked them 2nd best out of the budget Ultra High Performance All Seasons.
I don't want dedicated winters (not enough snow) and I'll be selling the car with the fat-5s so I want tires that will work year round when in stock config.

http://www.discounttiredirect.com</a

UHP *** will work in a VERY light snow, but they're not designed to do so, nor do they do it very well, IMO.
I'd get something else.

performance winter tire. Having RWD I want as much traction as possible in any amount of snow, ice, or a mix of the two. My Mich all season's on the TT worked fine in the small amount of snow that we got here last year....I also think the quattro had a lot to do with that!!! Who knows how much we will get this year, but I am prepared either way!

Thanks for the heads up. Saved me a $100 on a set of Falken 615s that I'll need soon.

when I sell this car, and I sell the CHs separately, I don't want to have to mount the fat-5s with winter tires on them for the sale. So I'm shooting for all-seasons.
I had all-seasons on my Talon in the mountains of NY and in MI (lot more snow both places) and I NEVER had a problem. AWD rules!

I had some cheapo Falkens a long time ago, they wore out very fast. Skewed my opinion of the brand. Thought about trying the 912s this time around, but I know the Kumhos aren't bad from prior experience.
I saw about this $100 off at my local forum. I think its a great deal, not sure why it isn't getting advertised more.

I loved my BMW in winter. Yes the TT was slightly better but I felt confident driving either car in any amount of snow.... and thats in Minnesota. Plus it has that RWD fun factor.
